The almost legendary Dahlia Café au Lait has undergone a small colour change over the years. Not the entire batch, no, just a few tubers that suddenly got a different colour. Most Dahlia growers remove these colour mutants from the batch, after all, it is the special coffee colour that makes the Café au Lait so popular. Not grower Van Schie, he found a few colour variations in the Café au Lait that he thought were worth growing. The Café au Lait Royal, the Café au Lait Rose, the Café au Lait Supreme and the Café au Lait Twist emerged from this. I completely agree with Van Schie, these four Dahlias are more than worth it. They flower and grow exactly the same as the old familiar Dahlia Café au Lait, only the colour is different.

The Dahlia truly deserves every bit of love she receives. Every gardener should be placing her om a pedestal: Dahlias carry flowers for a long time, and in a large number. Even when autumn is approaching, you don’t need to worry: the Dahlia will be there to give your garden those last few rays of sunshine.
Planting dahlias:
Dahlias are summer bloomers and should be planted in spring, after the last night frost, when the soil temperature is at least 15°C. Plant the tubers about 40 cm apart for tall varieties and 30 cm for shorter varieties. For pots, choose very large pots, because dahlias need a lot of water in the warm summer months. Plant them just under the soil, about 2 cm deep.
