"I first saw her at the annual Flower Trade Exhibition in Aalsmeer. This is an annual trade fair held in the building of the flower auction Flora Holland where the flower sector exhibits its latest products. The flower trade, flower growers and breeders come from all over the world to show what beautiful things they have.

In the field of flowers, the cream of the crop can really be seen at this fair. Many exhibitors spare no expense or effort to present their products as beautifully as possible. To show you how beautifully some traders exhibit their products, I have included a photo of a Kalanchoe grower.

And there was the White Amadeus, on top of a pillar, incorporated into a beautiful flower arrangement. It was at the stand of Amaryllis grower N.L. van Geest. It was love at first sight.

Her beautifully shaped, large flowers in combination with her pristine white, simply fantastic. The following spring I met her again, now in the greenhouse at Van Geest where she surprised me again in a positive way. A beautiful, short and sturdy plant with many, but especially large, flowers. This White Amadeus Amaryllis has a bright future ahead of her."

Planting and care of Amaryllis bulbs

Plant the amaryllis bulb in a sturdy pot filled with compost, leaving approximately one-third of the bulb above the surface. Place the pot in a warm, bright position and keep the compost slightly moist. With the right care, you can enjoy its impressive flowers within six to eight weeks.

An amaryllis can also be grown in water without compost. Use a suitable amaryllis vase and make sure that only the roots touch the water. This helps prevent the bulb from rotting.

You can order amaryllis bulbs from us from the beginning of autumn. We start shipping from November, so your bulbs arrive in time to enjoy their spectacular flowers during winter and around the Christmas season.

An amaryllis can flower in the middle of winter. Once the prepared bulb is brought into room temperature, it begins to grow and flower.

Yes, you can try to keep an amaryllis bulb and bring it back into flower. We guarantee flowering in the first year, but we cannot guarantee that it will flower again in subsequent years.

After flowering, the amaryllis can continue growing in a warm, bright place, such as outdoors in the garden or in a conservatory. It then needs a cooler resting period before being moved back into warmth to encourage another flowering cycle.

Keep the potting soil moist but not waterlogged. The bulb needs relatively little water at first, but its water requirements increase once the amaryllis starts growing actively.

Amaryllis bulbs are given a cool period before flowering. When the bulb is then brought into a warm home, it responds as though spring has begun and starts to grow and bloom.
