Spring

Good morning dear readers of our newsletter,

The ladies from the office are back! And what a lovely week we had. Spring has really started over here in Burgervlotbrug.

My name is Lian, and today I would like to tell you about what one of my work days looks like during this time of year.

At 8 in the morning, my colleague Adri (the one and only not-lady of the office) and I went to Jan Hein’s Daffodil fields. He is a local Daffodil grower who grows a lot of Carlos’ Daffodils.

We had scheduled to meet with five other people from ‘the South,’ which is flower-bulb-world jargon for the folks from the Lisse (where the Keukenhof is) and Hillegom area. We spent time walking through the fields and going over the different varieties. After that, we went on to Carlos’s ‘Candy Land,’ which is what we call the field with over a thousand small, often new, varieties of Carlos’s Daffodils. It is sort of like a shop window for other people from the industry, but more recently, also for everyone else, as a lot of these varieties are now also available in our web shop. If you are interested in that, I do recommend looking at them early, as the available numbers are very low for these varieties. It’s easy to miss out on them.

Around 10, Adri and I got back to the office, and after a quick cup of coffee we continued with our day. Adri went tot he warehouse to pack orders, and I took place behind my computer screen. Our picking garden is now open, and Jacqueline mans the little register we have over there, which means we have to take over some of her usual office work.

After lunch, Jacqueline and I switched places, and I got to stand outside in the sun for a bit. The picking garden is always a happy place, and most people love to talk a little bit about how their time in North Holland is. After an hour, Jacqueline had recharged and took back over, so I could go back to my computer. I stayed there until the end of the day, and then the working day was already over.

My days at Fluwel are very diverse during this time of year, and I love that. You can really tell spring time gives everyone a lot of energy and happiness, and honestly, how could it not!

And as the newsletter also needs some information regarding our web shop, let me tell you that this is also the perfect time to go outside yourself. April is the last month to plant Lilies, so if you have not yet gotten yours, this is your sign. We still have some beautiful varieties in our web shop, and we ship them out within one workday.

April is also the perfect time to plant Dahlias. Dahlias are easy tubers, these guys grow in practically any garden as long as they get some sun and light. Dahlias do need lots of water, so if you’ve planted yours and you live in a dry area, giving them something extra won’t hurt.

Dahlia Alyshia - Dahlias - Fluwel

If you’ve never had Dahlias, I really do encourage you to try them out. The tubers may look strange and the plant may look a bit exotic, and therefore maybe difficult, in pictures, but I promise that they are actually really easy to please. I am sure you can do it!

I hope you enjoy your spring!

Kind regards,

Lian / Fluwel
