This exceptional strong but very pretty, double tulip is from Japan. Over there, in the far East, she was named after the legendary and unbeatable sumo wrestler Akebono. A great name for this Tulip because like the sumo wrestler, she is a die-hard. The tulip herself is a real Darwin hybrid tulip; strong, vigorous and long lasting. I have seen her re-blooming in different gardens for several springs on undisturbed sunny locations. Akebono…a winner.

Tulips

Of all bulbs, the tulip is the best known. Tulip bulbs are widely traded and even play a role in Dutch history. The plant was introduced in the Golden Age in our country.

Planting tulips:
They thrive in full sun but will tolerate light shade. Tulips hate wet feet and require well-drained soil. Never plant tulips in a single row; for best results, plant them in groups of at least 15-20 bulbs. They also make excellent container plants and are great as cut flowers.
