If you want to try something unique, plant this Ornithogalum. Originally, she is from the Caucasus mountains and named after the beautiful Russian city at the Black Sea where the 2014 Olympic winter games were held.

Ornithogalum ponticum Sochi is very hardy and thrives well in a sunny spot in your garden. At the end of May the blooming starts at a height of approximate 40 cm. She will bloom for at least three weeks opening new flowers all time on continuous growing stems.

When she finishes blooming she will be at least 75 cm tall. Certainly worth trying, her dainty looks and airily way of blooming will be very appealing. Also, as cut flower she is surprisingly good, an exciting ingredient to a cheerful field bouquet.

Planting flower bulbs

When should I plant my flower bulbs? If you want beautiful flowers such as tulips and daffodils in your garden in the spring, you will need to plant flower bulbs in the fall. This can be done as soon as the leaves fall from the trees. Make sure that the spring bloomers are in the ground before the frost sets in.

Summer bloomers such as dahlias and lilies should be planted in the spring so that they bloom in the summer.

Planting flower bulbs is not complicated at all. The same principles apply in principle:

  • do not plant the bulb too deep in the ground (usually between 8 and 18 centimeters)
  • provide good natural conditions
  • be frugal with fertilizer and let the bulb do its work
