This special tulip falls into the category of ‘Rembrandt tulips’. That is actually quite remarkable, as Rembrandt never painted a tulip.

Insulinde has a broken, or flamed, pattern in the flower and was registered as early as 1915, but is likely even older. The pattern in the flower is caused by the Tulip Breaking Virus. Just a few hundred years earlier, in Rembrandt's time, these flamed tulips caused a massive tulip fever in the Netherlands. At that time, a tulip was worth more than an Amsterdam canal house. Fortunately, that fever subsided, making the Insulinde tulip accessible to everyone later on. Insulinde is a special addition to your garden and is available in limited quantities.

Tulips

Of all bulbs, the tulip is the best known. Tulip bulbs are widely traded and even play a role in Dutch history. The plant was introduced in the Golden Age in our country.

Planting tulips:
They thrive in full sun but will tolerate light shade. Tulips hate wet feet and require well-drained soil. Never plant tulips in a single row; for best results, plant them in groups of at least 15-20 bulbs. They also make excellent container plants and are great as cut flowers.
