At our place on the corner of the Belkmerweg is a house called 'the house with two faces'. One side of the house looks out onto the street and the other side of the house looks out onto…exactly, also onto the street. Completely different faces but one and the same house. This Dahlia Embassy has a little bit of the same but completely different of course. If you look her straight in the face, she is enchantingly beautiful but if you look at her more from the side she also is enchantingly beautiful in a completely different way, perhaps even more beautiful. A completely different appearance, suddenly she shows the silver powdered undersides of her petals, fantastic. It is difficult to capture in the photo but in real life Embassy truly is a Dahlia with two faces.
Dahlias
The Dahlia truly deserves every bit of love she receives. Every gardener should be placing her om a pedestal: Dahlias carry flowers for a long time, and in a large number. Even when autumn is approaching, you don’t need to worry: the Dahlia will be there to give your garden those last few rays of sunshine.
Planting dahlias:
Dahlias are summer bloomers and should be planted in spring, after the last night frost, when the soil temperature is at least 15°C. Plant the tubers about 40 cm apart for tall varieties and 30 cm for shorter varieties. For pots, choose very large pots, because dahlias need a lot of water in the warm summer months. Plant them just under the soil, about 2 cm deep.
