A gem of a Narcissus from the former breeder Alec Gray from the nostalgic town of Camborne in Cornwall. Alec Gray was a passionate breeder of small Narcissus and actually we, the Narcissus breeders, should consider him the most successful Narcissus breeder of all time.

Among the dozens of nice little Narcissi that he won is also the Tete a Tete . This is that cheerful yellow Narcissi that you see in flower shops and garden centres all winter long. Never before has a Narcissus, or even any other Flower Bulb, been grown on such a large scale for such a long time.

For decades, the flower bulb growers have planted more than 600 hectares of the Tete a Tete and to this day, all those tens of millions of bulbs are still sold with great pleasure every year. You understand; we are dealing with a Master breeder here.

The Narcissus Clare is a late bloomer that does not have the good forcing properties that a Tete a Tete does. It is therefore not grown on a large scale, but how beautiful it is. At the beginning of its flowering it is completely yellow, but soon its cover leaves change color to cream and then to ivory white. During the discoloration its mischievous looking yellow cup becomes more and more striking and changes into a cheerful peering eye that seems to look around in surprise.

A gem among the miniature Daffodils .

Planting flower bulbs

When should I plant my flower bulbs? If you want beautiful flowers such as tulips and daffodils in your garden in the spring, you will need to plant flower bulbs in the fall. This can be done as soon as the leaves fall from the trees. Make sure that the spring bloomers are in the ground before the frost sets in.

Summer bloomers such as dahlias and lilies should be planted in the spring so that they bloom in the summer.

Planting flower bulbs is not complicated at all. The same principles apply in principle:

  • do not plant the bulb too deep in the ground (usually between 8 and 18 centimeters)
  • provide good natural conditions
  • be frugal with fertilizer and let the bulb do its work
