Every spring I come across something wonderful during my many searches for new flower bulbs for the Fluwel webshop. This year, the discovery of the red colour variant of Akebono was such a fantastic moment. Akebono is one of our most popular Tulips for the garden. And rightly so, because it is a top performer in the garden; large, healthy and extremely strong. When you come across a beautiful red colour variant, you jump for joy. And, to top it all off, this red Akebono does not show ordinary red, but a fantastically seductive bright red that you rarely come across in Tulips. The Akebono Red is an asset to the range of good Tulips for the garden. I came across her at the Van Klink nursery at De Stolpen and I said immediately when I saw her 'that one is for us Freek, as soon as you have bulbs available I would like to offer them in the Fluwel webshop'. Freek enjoyed his internship with us during his education at the horticultural school, so he granted us the first sale of this beautiful Tulip wholeheartedly. Incredibly happy with it, thank you Freek. So, if you also want to be the first to have this beautiful seductive red Tulip in your garden... just do it, I bet you will fall in love with her too and she will be found in your shopping cart in even greater numbers next year.

Planting and caring for tulip bulbs
Plant tulip bulbs in autumn in a sunny or lightly shaded position with well-drained soil. Place the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards at a depth of approximately two to three times the height of the bulb. Leave around 8 to 10 cm between the bulbs.
Plant tulips in groups for a colourful and natural effect. They are also ideal for containers and make wonderful cut flowers. Allow the foliage to yellow naturally after flowering so the bulbs can store energy.

You can order tulip bulbs from us from early spring onwards for the following planting season. We deliver the bulbs in autumn so they arrive at the right time for planting.
Flowering time varies by variety. By combining early, mid-season and late-flowering tulips, you can enjoy tulips in bloom for much of the spring.
That depends on the effect you want to create. In our range, you can choose from shorter and taller tulips, cut-flower tulips, tulips for pots and a variety of tulip mixes.
We supply our tulips in the largest bulb size and with a flowering guarantee. High-quality bulbs give the tulip a strong starting point for growth and flowering.
It depends on the variety. Some tulips are reliable perennial bloomers and can perform well for several years, while others are mainly planted for their first spring display. Check the characteristics of the individual variety when choosing.
Yes. Combining early, mid-season and late-flowering varieties can extend the flowering period and bring colour to the garden throughout a larger part of spring.
