Above the Andes
Dear readers,
As I am writing this, I am in an airplane above the Andes mountains. Whenever I am on a flight like this, I am in awe of how small the world can feel sometimes. I got on a train at home and less than twenty-four hours later, I step out of an airport on the other side of the planet. Travelling to the southern hemisphere also feels extra special because when you leave, you leave autumn behind, but once you arrive, it is springtime. Truly extraordinary.

Throughout the years, we have sent many flowers to our Chilean Daffodil friends. They have been asking us to come visit again for years and enjoy a second spring in the same year, and we finally got to it. We are almost there, the plane is preparing to land, so I have to put away my little tray table and stop writing. Once we’re on the ground, I’ll send Pien some pictures of my notebook, and then she can decode what it says and turn it into a newsletter :)

These are the photos I send her, this text is about our Camassia quamash. It needs some editing still, but I just wanted to show you how all of these newsletters you read start out. And you are also probably not surprised when I tell you that Pien sometimes needs to use some artistic freedom to turn it into one story.

Next week, I hope to tell you all more about Chile!
Kind regards,
Carlos van der Veek
