We owe this bright large Tulip to Tulip breeder IJsbrand de Jong, who lives in the Noordoostpolder. His aim was to breed a Tulip that is completely resistant to diseases so that no more chemical agents are needed during cultivation. For decades he has been busy transferring resistances from wild Tulips to modern Tulips. A very long road with many disappointing results. One time the flowers were not worth looking at and the next time diseases still appeared during the continued cultivation.

But suddenly there was Novi Sun, a beautiful early flowering Tulip that is not affected by viruses and fungi.

In the future I will come across this Tulip often because it will be grown on a large scale. I wanted to buy it much earlier, but every time bulbs came on the market, the bulbs were quickly bought up by other growers to broaden and improve their Tulip assortment with Novi Sun. But we managed to get a few.

Novi Sun is an excellent Tulip for the garden with the allure of a Sunflower. When its flower buds are still small they already start to color and during its long flowering they grow into radiant large and beautifully shaped Tulip flowers.

Tulips

Of all bulbs, the tulip is the best known. Tulip bulbs are widely traded and even play a role in Dutch history. The plant was introduced in the Golden Age in our country.

Planting tulips:
They thrive in full sun but will tolerate light shade. Tulips hate wet feet and require well-drained soil. Never plant tulips in a single row; for best results, plant them in groups of at least 15-20 bulbs. They also make excellent container plants and are great as cut flowers.
