There is no doubt that the name Sugar Crystal suits this Tulip, all sweetness. This beautiful Tulip is grown on the unique nursery of John and Raymond Huijg in Breezand, North Holland. The 'unique' thing about their nursery is that the two brothers only grow Tulips that they have developed themselves .
The founder of their beautiful Tulip assortment was their father Hein Huijg (1931-2016). His name lives on in the flower bulb business. He was a striking man, everyone knew him, with a large and stocky build and very strong with hands that were as big as coal shovels due to the hard work.
I liked him, he always said what he thought, straight to the point and a heart of gold. Always nice stories about the past or the present, a visit to old 'Sir Henry' (as he was called by his English bulb friends) was never boring. The most memorable is his story that he could remember as if it were yesterday how he saw an orange for the first time as an 18 year old boy and was also allowed to eat it, such things can no longer be imagined today.
Many of the Tulips from the well-known breeding stable of the Huijg family are very worthwhile: Snow Crystal , Crispion Sweet , Fly Away , and the fantastic mixture Family Reunion are all from their hand and you can find all these beautiful Tulips in our webshop. But this Tulip 'Sugar Crystal' is in my eyes one of their masterpieces.

Tulips
Of all bulbs, the tulip is the best known. Tulip bulbs are widely traded and even play a role in Dutch history. The plant was introduced in the Golden Age in our country.
Planting tulips:
They thrive in full sun but will tolerate light shade. Tulips hate wet feet and require well-drained soil. Never plant tulips in a single row; for best results, plant them in groups of at least 15-20 bulbs. They also make excellent container plants and are great as cut flowers.
