Gardening promotes health in general, but your own in particular. Yes, I'm just saying something because I don't really know what to write about this Dahlia. Not that I don't think it's beautiful, I'm just stuck. I remember exactly what Baccara looks like, you never forget a good Dahlia. I also remember thinking; red comes in all colours but this one is really beautiful. It is, I'm just thinking now, one of those red shades that can't be photographed. When I looked up my photos to put on the site, they turned out to be almost all rubbish. Normally that doesn't matter, just send an appie to Eric and ask for his photos of Baccara. What do you think... same story, there was nothing good among them. So if you want to know how beautiful Baccara is, you'll have to plant it yourself. You can do that, it won't disappoint you. Next year I'll have good photos, I promise you. I plant her in mine and I will succeed.

Planting and caring for dahlia tubers

Plant dahlia tubers in spring once the risk of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Choose a sunny position with nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. Place the tubers with the old stem or growing point facing upwards and cover them with approximately 5 cm of soil. Depending on the mature height of the variety, leave around 30 to 50 cm between the tubers.

Plant dahlias in a generously sized container with good drainage. They need regular watering during warm summer weather, but the tubers should not remain in wet soil for prolonged periods.

Read our complete guide to when and how to plant and care for dahlia tubers.

Our Dahlia tubers become available towards the end of the year for the following summer season. You can order them in advance, and we begin shipping from early March so they arrive in time for spring planting.

Dahlias are planted in spring after the last night frost, once the soil has warmed sufficiently. We recommend waiting until the soil temperature is around 15°C before planting.

Yes. Dahlias grow very well in pots. Choose a generously sized container, as Dahlias need plenty of water during warm summer weather and larger pots dry out less quickly.

Dahlias prefer a sunny position and well-drained soil. Large-flowered Dahlias in particular benefit from plenty of light and warmth, which helps them produce more flowers and bloom for longer.

Yes. Dahlia tubers can be started in pots indoors from March in a bright position. Once the risk of night frost has passed, the plants can be moved outside and planted in the garden.

For several Dahlia varieties, we recommend regularly removing faded flowers and seed heads. This encourages the plant to continue producing new flowers throughout the season.
