The first name that grower Ben van Geest wrote on the cutting of this Amaryllis was Bordeaux. 'Good wine needs no bush' he must have thought; so we call her Bordeaux. But it seems that Bordeaux is also a color designation and color designations may not be used as a name according to the nomenclature committee.
Never mind, we'll call her Merlot, also a nice wine. But alas, the naming committee rebelled again; Merlot is so common as a name for a grape, that it creates confusion. It almost sounds like calling an Amaryllis a grape. That would be too complicated for the consumer according to the naming bureaucrats.
This year grower Van Geest writes “Red Reality” on the plant wood, this name seems to become reality. Beautiful name, but actually a shame, this Amaryllis is more than good enough to carry a really big name like Bordeaux or Merlot. A fantastic velvet red color on large flowers that are carried by sturdy stems. Really a topper.

Amaryllis
The biggest reason I love the Amaryllis so much is because she always performs well. Always? Yes always. No kidding, if you leave them in the box they will still bloom. It seems that it can’t go wrong.
Planting Amaryllis:
Planting an amaryllis is quite easy. Plant the amaryllis bulb in a pot that is half filled with soil, but in such a way that the neck of the bulb protrudes above the soil. Make sure that the soil remains somewhat moist and place the pot in a warm, but not too sunny place, then within six to eight weeks there will be a beautiful amaryllis in your living room.
It is even possible to plant an amaryllis bulb without using soil. Then it needs a vase in which the bulb can stand upright. This way the roots can hang in the water.
