The Allium schubertii is the bird of paradise among the Alliums. With its far-reaching pink flowers it attracts attention and tries to be more beautiful than its neighbour. Give it the space to reach its full beauty. Unfortunately, the species does not form young bulbs (it is propagated exclusively by seed) and the bulb dies of old age after flowering for a few years. It also looks magnificent in a pot.

Allium

Over the last decades the ornamental Onion has become very popular. In the older days we were just dealing with a handful of Alliums, nowadays we count dozens. Not just because she is a nice garden flower, also the flower industry embraced her as a cut flower.

Planting Allium:
Plant an Allium in full sun or light shade in well-drained soil. An Allium is ideal for the wild garden, but also does well in the common border where it considerably extends the flowering season for spring-flowering bulbs. For best results, plant them in groups of five or more. The bulbs can remain in place for years. Only when they grow too close together can you divide the bulbs in the autumn and replant them immediately.
