Planting and caring for Zantedeschia (Calla) tubers

Plant Zantedeschia tubers in spring once the risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny, warm and sheltered position with nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. Place the tubers approximately 10 cm deep with the growing points facing upwards.

Zantedeschias are also ideal for containers. Use a generously sized pot with good drainage and keep the soil evenly moist during the growing season, without allowing it to remain wet for prolonged periods. Protect the plants from frost and overwinter the tubers in a frost-free place.

You can order Zantedeschia tubers from us from the beginning of the year for the coming summer season. We start shipping from early March, so the tubers arrive in time for spring planting.

Zantedeschias are summer-flowering plants. The exact flowering period varies by variety, with some beginning to flower from late June.

Yes. Zantedeschias are very suitable as cut flowers and are also grown professionally for this purpose. Check the product information for each variety to see whether it is recommended for cutting.

Height varies by variety. Some more compact Zantedeschias grow to around 30–40 cm, so we recommend checking the specifications of the individual variety.

We supply large Zantedeschia tubers with a minimum circumference of 20 cm+. This large tuber size gives the plant a strong starting point for abundant flowering.

Yes. Zantedeschias are true tuberous plants, and the tubers can be stored out of the ground for extended periods. This also makes it possible to influence the flowering time to some extent.
