Being Kind
Dear readers,
When I was contemplating what to write in this week’s newsletter, I was thinking about making kind gestures towards the people around you. But then I felt like that might come across as if I thought you were usually unkind, and that is not what I mean at all. I really just want to remind everyone that an act of kindness can be very easy and is always appreciated.
And what kind of act of kindness would I be thinking about as someone in flower bulbs? Giving a loved one an Amaryllis, of course. An Amaryllis is the perfect present this time of year, a great gift to anyone who could use, and deserves, a little bit of colour and happiness.
I bet you’re already thinking of someone as you’re reading this, and I want this to be your sign to act on that thought. Don’t overthink it, just have a look at all of the possibilities and choose an Amaryllis that suits them best. I can guarantee you won’t regret it, and the best part is that gifting an Amaryllis always fosters more connection with the recipient: they will probably send you pictures of their Amaryllis growing and in full bloom, which is the best part of it all.
We often give people Amaryllises, and the usual reaction is always very sweet. ‘You didn’t have to do that,’ they often say, but everyone is happy to take their new bulb home.

I think that was enough commercial talk, back to real life. As I was debating what I wanted to write about this week, I took a look at our ‘trusted shop’ to find some inspiration. Trusted shop is a kind of mailbox in our website, where people can leave reviews and share their experience ordering from us. Shops also get a rating from 1 to 5 stars, and I am delighted that Fluwel has an average of 4,85. Reading though the reviews is a pleasure, making people happy is what we are doing all of this for. And I most like seeing the nice responses to our ‘special gift,’ which is an extra little bag of bulbs we add to every order, no matter the size. From the very start of our shop, we wanted to surprise people with a small thank-you for ordering from us. We thought about other items to put into the orders, but we quickly came back from that. Because really, the only thing we know for sure about our dear customers is that they, obviously, like flower bulbs, and therefore, flower bulbs were probably the best choice for everyone. Our trusted shop messages seem to tell us that this was the right decision!
When you order our Amaryllises, you will get one extra Amaryllis as a gift. Many of our loyal customers know this by now, and I have a story about that too. Once upon a time a customer called our office to ask about the gifted bulb. She had ordered a Picotee Amaryllis, and wanted to see if her gifted Amaryllis could be the gorgeous Amaryllis papilio. It was sold out on our website, but if we were to find one last bulb somewhere around the warehouse, she would really love to have that variety. I love that people like this exist, the people who just ask because the worst thing that could happen is us saying no. Some people might find it audacious, but to be honest, it just made me smile.
But back to giving Amaryllises to your loved ones. I am telling you about the free Amaryllis we add to your order to say that this could also be the perfect present. You don’t have to keep it yourself, and I can guarantee that giving someone a gift feels just as good as having a beautiful Amaryllis in your home.
If you would rather give someone a different kind of bulb, don’t let this newsletter about Amaryllises stop you from that! When it comes to giving flower bulbs, you can also offer to help plant them in the recipient’s garden, which means you have an extra nice, shared activity with a friend. Planting the bulbs could even be the smallest part of the plans, because when you’re done, both of you will truly deserve a glass of wine and a nice dinner :)
