Available now and only from us: The Flower Bulb Bible by Jacqueline van der Kloet

There is no Dutch garden designer who has been so internationally renowned for years as flower bulb queen Jacqueline van der Kloet. Garden lovers who travel to the neighbouring country know her famous Tea Garden in Weesp and make a pilgrimage there not only in spring. In Germany, she is best known for the State Garden Show in Bad Essen, where she cast a fantastic spell on Castle Ippenburg in spring.

Jacqueline always lends a hand with planting herself.

Jacqueline is truly a master at using flower bulbs and expertly combining them with perennials. And she never tires of giving hobby gardeners and those who want to become hobby gardeners a practical hand with her plant planning recipes. She does this in her international projects from the Highline in New York to Yokohama in Japan (there with many volunteers), but she also does it in lectures around the world, which form the basis for her books. Her latest work, to be published in mid-August, is called ‘Onion Bible’ and is subtitled ‘Magic with bulbs and perennials’.

A must for every flower bulb fan!

As Fluwel, we have the honour of being the only ones to sell the Bulb Bible in German. How did this come about? The basic work was published in the Netherlands last year and is selling like hot cakes there. Because we found the book so interesting, we wanted to offer our customers a German version of the Onion Bible on our webshop. Because if not us, who else? If not now, then when?

It can already be ordered exclusively through our Fluwel webshop now and will be shipped from the third week of August! We offer free shipping until the end of September, so it will be with you quickly - from the beginning of October we will then ship it together with your flower bulb order.
Incidentally, that was the original plan: that you would receive the book together with the autumn flower bulbs. But then we thought that it might make more sense for some of you to receive it a few weeks earlier. Then you can read it to get inspiration for your autumn planting and perhaps order some special bulbs from the book. To make it as practical as possible for you, we have therefore specially labelled the bulbs that Jacqueline recommends in her book in our shop.

Anyone who had the opportunity to visit the world horticultural exhibition Floriade Expo in Almere last year could get an impressive impression of Jacqueline's garden design style. The Floriade, which takes place in the Netherlands every 10 years, has always been a homecoming for Jacqueline. In the book, she reveals what was important to her when planning her plants. She is always inspired by nature and her flowerbeds therefore have a natural look. For this, she has developed her own planting method, which is described in detail in the book.

She stresses the importance of a nearly year-round variety of blooms for bulbs, but she also believes it is important that they thrive in combination with perennials and grasses. Readers of the book will find accurate planting lists to accompany the many photos and also learn how to mix colours skillfully to achieve a particular effect. The flowering time is, of course, fundamental. Therefore, in all descriptions of our bulbs we mention in which month they are expected to bloom and also how tall the bulbous flower will grow. This information is crucial for good combinations.

A look into the book

Jacqueline's book makes it easy for beginners to get started with flower bulbs and garden design or pot gardening, but the flower bulb bible also has a lot to offer professionals and true enthusiasts. You won't put it down easily ...
The book is of course especially interesting for planting spring-flowering bulbs in autumn, but non-hardy summer-flowering bulbs are also an important topic. It is really about the year-round garden experience.

Sorry if this turns into a rant, but this time it is not Carlos who writes this newsletter and the ad block for the flower bulb bible, but Claudia Gölz. I am the translator of Jacqueline's books and have known the flower bulb queen personally for many years and have also experienced and admired many of her gardens and plants in real life. And of course I also know Carlos personally, as I have been translating his newsletters into German for many years and take turns doing this with my colleague Alina Riemer, who is also a lover of flower bulbs.

Incidentally, Carlos is in bulb fever these weeks and working full-time to prepare for the autumn sales season. There is a lot going on in North Holland right now.
So: look forward to autumn, the planting season for the many tulips, daffodils, alliums, hyacinths, crocuses.... and to the flower bulb bible, which can now be ordered from our webshop.

Best regards
Claudia Gölz
