The odd one out. At first sight she seems to be a normal yellow Daffodil, but you can’t walk past her without stopping to take a second look. You can see that something is off, but what…

If you would take a closer look, you could see that on the petals and the flower a waxy layer is missing, this gives her a somewhat plastic appearance. This is really unique, I have never seen it before in Daffodils, she is an alien.

When I was visited by my Spanish speaking Daffodil friend Madelaine, from Santigiago, Chile, she immediately noticed that this Daffodil had something different.

‘Gringo is a suitable name for this Daffodil, Carlos. In South America the word Gringo is used for people who are from different continents, and this Daffodil seems to have come from a whole other world.’

I quickly wrote Gringo down on the plant marker and requested the name. One of the things that stand out about this Daffodil is that she does not seem to understand when spring is over, and that, a few weeks after that happens, she could safely let her beautiful flowers die off. Maybe she wants to prove herself to look better than the rest, because she is so different, but it seems like she is never finished blooming.

Incredible, how long she flowers, I kind of grew to love these Gringo’s.
