Sometimes it is not easy for me to get excited about a somewhat older Tulip, which I have been seeing for years. Not that I am tired of it, certainly not, it just starts to become too 'ordinary' when you see a flower for the umpteenth time.

That also applied a bit to Silver Parrot, since grower Huijg from Breezand introduced this Tulip in 1999 I have seen her several times every spring. The first time I saw her it was really WOW, what a beauty, and now I caught myself that the wow had faded considerably.

But actually, Silver Parrot is still a fantastically beautiful Tulip that shows a play of colours and flower shapes that you can hardly find in other Tulips.

Visitors to the Fluwel show garden, where we plant all the varieties from the Fluwel website every year, pointed it out to me. I had received some bulbs from Huijg to try and the reactions were overwhelming. The many visitors and Fluwel customers who came to see it were wildly enthusiastic about the Silver Parrot.

In full bloom she is also a real beauty and the silver edge along her leaves makes her shine even more. Silver Parrot, a somewhat older but still beautiful Tulip.

Tulips

Of all bulbs, the tulip is the best known. Tulip bulbs are widely traded and even play a role in Dutch history. The plant was introduced in the Golden Age in our country.

Planting tulips:
They thrive in full sun but will tolerate light shade. Tulips hate wet feet and require well-drained soil. Never plant tulips in a single row; for best results, plant them in groups of at least 15-20 bulbs. They also make excellent container plants and are great as cut flowers.
