Shirley Double

As the name suggests, this is a double form of the now 50 year old garden tulip Shirley, who is so well known that she’s almost a cliché. The reason I don’t offer the single-flowered Shirley is because I find her to be too old and feel like everyone has seen enough of her by now, but I have to admit that I think her daughter is still a beauty. She’s more exciting: beautiful lines in rosy, pearly flowers; gorgeous. As the flower gets older the purple slowly makes its way down, a unique sight. Shirley Double is a late flower, perfect to close off the tulip season.
