As I was driving past flower bulb grower Van Lierop’s house with 40 km/h, I caught a glimpse of beautiful, bright red. It was all the way in the back of the garden, almost hidden against a bush, but I could not forget about it. When I got home I sent him a message straight away, asking whether this might have been the wonderful new Tulip Heartbreaker. It was, and Heartbreaker indeed was his rely; a gorgeous red Tulip, that, as it turns out, is 100% UV-proof. She never fades in the sunlight, Van Lierop told me, and he was right: Heartbreaker is a tulip with an unusually bright red colour. This fiery red is tintillated even more by her yellow heart, hidden inside of the flower.
But what I adore most about this Tulip is the uncommon shape of her flower. I have rarely met a Tulip that has such a prefect shape. I will be sure to also offer this Tulip to my English customers, who take Tulips like this to all kinds of flower shows. They love Tulips with a perfect form like this, and I am sure Heartbreaker will break many hearts and win even more prizes.
