In the garden a truly phenomenal lily you really should see as a perennial. Every years she comes back better than the previous year with bigger stems and more flowers. Robina is one of the first lilies in the O.T. group that is not only suitable for the garden but also very useful for the cutting industry, a true breakthrough in hybridizing. The breeder Arie, a good friend of mine, has done his utmost to achieve this. His goal was to develop an easy to grow O.T. lily that would also serve the demands of the cut flower growers. He made crosses on a huge scale, used 10 different species for making a big potpourri of genes to use for his project. Eventually he grew over 1 hectare of seedlings, over 300.000 bulbs, every bulb an unique variety. Only 3 bulbs appeared out of this number which were good enough... Robina is the only survivor, she turns out to be completely fool proof. Bulb grower, lily flower grower or gardener, they all have success with Robina. A lot of other O.T. lilies are bred after Robina by a number of breeders but until today not a single one is so easy to grow as Robina.
