This sublime garden Tulip is named after one of today’s maestro’s in music; Mr. Mariss Jansons. In honour of his 75th birthday the Lithuanian and Dutch ambassadors, Ilze Rüze and Pieter Jan Langeberg, named this tulip after The Maestro. Mr. Mariss Jansons was the conductor of the Royal Concert hall Orchestra in Amsterdam for a period of 11 years and with his outstanding musical skills and leadership the orchestra became famous all over the world and was considered to be one of the best. It is nice to know that also the Tulip that is named after Mr. Mariss Jansons comes from Lithuania as well, Grobina to be precise. She is raised by the well-known Tulip breeder Juris Egle. This man has a good nose for quality because garden Tulips as good as this Tulip are hard to find. The Tulip Mariss Jansons has besides a splendid flower also very decorative leaves with purplish red stripes and dots which indicates that she originates from the strong species Tulipa greigii. A great Tulip and a wonderful addition to the assortment of garden Tulips.
