Description

In honour of her 100st anniversary the Royal Dutch Rowing Bond asked me if I had a Tulip, preferably orange, to name after the bond as a birthday present. Tulip is also a name for a certain type of oar and the Tulip, of course, is an all Dutch flower so very suitable to represent this beautiful Dutch organisation. Leo Bataviae was supposed to be the name of the Tulip. This is Latin for Lion of Orange. But this name unfortunately was not approved since it was too similar to some already existing names, so we decided to name her ‘KNRB’ When I showed them this Tulip from the Fluwel nursery they fell in love instantly, this was the Tulip. Lots of grace and a phenomenal orange colour, could it be more Dutch? Even the shape of the petals was alike the oldfashioned tulip oar. KNRB (Leo Bataviae) is a sturdy short Tulips that also does well in pots and planters but her most catching quality is her vivid colour, almost just as striking as the Californian poppies. She just is a wonderful Tulip bearing the name of a wonderful organisation… KNRB
