Who names a Tulip Qatar? Maybe you have a different association, but when I hear Qatar I always think of all the bad things which money and inequality can bring. But this Tulip can’t help it, I assume she was just standing around, being pretty when some jerk gave her this name. She is beautiful, very beautiful even and with a very, very long flowering time. I wasn’t the only one who noticed the long flowering period, Eric mentioned this as one of her qualities as well. However, she keeps another secret, when she is out of bloom, her petals don’t fall out. She changes into a dry flower, and a beautiful one at that. And this doesn’t just happen in the garden, in a vase as well her flowers will slowly crumble and turn in to the colour of that mahogany wooden cabinet of your grandmothers which is collecting dust in attic. But falling off? No way, she will remain as she is until you get tired of her. I tried it myself, I picked a flower and put it in a vase, she ended in the compost bin as a dry flower. Funny, isn’t it?
