Luckily, Graceland is an incredibly beautiful Tulip because otherwise it would have been a shame for it to carry such a big name. Half a century ago Graceland was just a beautiful mansion in a colonial style located at the shores of the Mississippi in Memphis. All that changed when Graceland was sold to Elvis Presley in 1957, who proceeded to live there until his dead in 1977. Right now, Elvis is buried at Graceland and it has become a famous sacred place of worship. I have been there myself in the late 80’s. There was a Daffodil convention organized by the American Daffodil Society. Wim Lemmers, the uncle of Eric Breed and a lover of Daffodils, asked me if I wanted to join him. Of course, I wanted to come see Daffodils in Memphis Tennessee. And when one is there, one must of course take a look at Graceland, which was at that time already one of the biggest sights of the city. Once I was there, I did not know where to look: there were so many people, and obviously they were crazy about Elvis. I even saw people crying at his gravestone. I realized how special Elvis must have been, and was amazed by the influence that he had on people with his music. Up to the present day, thousands of visitors still come to Graceland every day. It is in fact, next to the White House, the most visited mansion of America. Thus, maybe you can understand that after my visit to this place, I am relieved that the name Graceland is carried by such a beautiful Tulip. A cute characteristic of the Tulip Graceland is that from each bulb, in addition to a bigger flower, one or two little flowers bloom just below the bigger one. If you look closely at the picture you can see it yourself. Isn’t she beautiful?
