Compressus is a Daffodil that raises a lot of questions; she is in culture for ages, but nobody knows where she comes from or who the breeder was. The story goes that she was found in the wild somewhere in the Pyrenees. Articles in ancient gardening books mention the Narcissus tazetta Compressus being grown in those regions around the year 1700. Compressus should originate from a spontaneous cross breeding between two species Daffodils; Narcissus jonquilla and Narcissus tazetta. Where ever she comes from or whoever bred her, Compressus is a curiosity. Monstrous big bulbs that looks amazingly beautiful, but it is the flowers that are truly unsurpassable. 10, 15 sometimes 20 flowers on one single stem, freshly colours with a marvelous fragrance.
