The ‘Darwi’ part in the name refers to ‘Darwin hybrid’ Tulip. This is a known term among flower bulb growers and Tulip enthusiasts that refers to a certain type of Tulips. Tulip hybridizers have often crossed late-blooming Tulips, formerly called ‘Darwin Tulips’, with Tulips that stem from the species Tulipa fosteriana. As a result of such crossings we have found some amazing garden Tulips. But the hybridizers never could get a white Tulip out of this practice. They did not even get close to white… until suddenly there was the snowy white Darwisnow. The hybridizers purposefully kept the ‘Darwi’ in het name, because otherwise Tulip experts would never believe that this is one of those superb Darwin hybrid garden Tulips.

Darwisnow really did get all the good characteristics: healthy, large in size, early and long blooming and the ability to return for several years. One of the best.
