A ‘wild Daffodil’ is what we bulb people say when we talk about pumilus. What we mean is that pumilis is a straight species originated in the wild, nothing tinkered or bred, handmade by Mother Nature. Centuries ago botanists fumbled pumilus out of the Spanish soil and brought her to Holland to be propagated by bulb growers. She is passed on from generation to generation and always grown on a small scale for a specialty bulb market. But years ago when I got a few bulbs from a Daffodil friend I quickly started to build up a stock. She is such a nice little Daffodil for in pots, containers or the rock garden and pumilus also pernnializes very well. The little Daffodil Rip van Winkle is a sport of pumilus with double flowers.
