Carlos, are you still coming over to look at my Tulips? Is what I got as a text message from the Tulip breeder Thijs Langveld in Breezand. Of course, I did, visits to Thijs always are cheerful and there always is a lot of good stuff to look at. Thijs is a bloke who, together with his brother, always worked like a horse on their bulb nursery. Once they were in the clover, he sold their nursery to enjoy his old day. Now he had abundant time for his hobby; growing Tulips. Of course, not on the large scale he used to do in the old days. No, now he has chosen for the real specialty work; breeding new Tulip varieties. And what a good achievement he got in such a short period of time. During my visit he completely bewildered me with his new Tulip seedlings. What a green fingers this man has, what a nice Tulips.
‘Carlos, this is one of my favourites’ is what Thijs said when we were observing this Tulip. Nice colour, elegant flowers and always performing well. I hope to sell this Tulip to a grower soon, is how he continued, because the stock is growing too big for me. I could almost offer bulbs to the market from a stock this large. Well Thijs, if you have some bulbs to sell, I would be very interested, I think I can make a lot of my customers happy with a Tulip as beautiful as this one. This gorgeous Tulip has no name yet but that does not care, she will be just as nice. But when you have a good suggestion… or maybe a good name pops up when De Tulp van Thijs is blooming in your garden next spring.
